Physical activity has played a critical role in the evolution of our species. Whether we were hunting or foraging for food or exploring our planet, physical fitness helped ensure the health and longevity of our species and has enabled us to thrive for thousands of years. We founded Summation Athletics in 2019 to help others enjoy their outdoor pursuits and to challenge and inspire people to expand their boundaries through the exploration of our planet's wild places. Since we began our journey, we have trained folks to scale some of the tallest mountains, run 100-mile races, hone their rock and ice climbing skills, and have successful elk and deer hunting seasons. We hope to build on these successes by simplifying how we share our stories, communicate with you, and promote our athletes' success and responsible outdoor culture.

Why rebrand?

As the Summation Athletics family has grown, our role as a mentor for many types of athletes has become more apparent, and we felt that it was time for our brand to reflect the culture and purpose of the community of athletes that we have built. A "summation" is simply the process of adding things up. In the context of exercise physiology, which is at the heart of our company, a summation occurs when multiple nerve signals are sent to a muscle, telling it to contract. While one nerve signal alone is not enough to elicit a muscle contraction, the additive effect of multiple signals sent to the muscle over time is what generates the contraction essential for human movement. This concept can be applied to significant achievements in life since it is the additive effect of multiple actions over time that leads to the successful attainment of a goal. Our goal is to help you achieve your fitness objectives through guided training, mentorship, and discipline so that you are mentally and physically prepared for the outdoor challenges you love.

Moving forward

Our team has been working hard to develop several new aspects of our services. The most significant change can be seen in our new website. On our new website, you will find articles written by our athletes, coaches, and collaborators that provide helpful training tips and inspirational stories, complete with breathtaking photos of your adventures. We have also added a new scheduling tool, making it easier than ever to book a consultation with one of our coaches. Not sure what gear to pack for your upcoming climbing trip in the Cascades? Schedule a quick consultation with one of our coaches, who is also a certified mountain guide. Interested in training for your first elk hunt in the Colorado high country, but not sure where to start? Get a custom-training plan designed by someone who has had successful hunts in the mountains and knows how to prepare.

While 2020 has undoubtedly been a challenging year for everyone, we are excited about the progress our community has made towards growing a culture of outdoor recreation and achievement, and we can't wait to see what we will accomplish in the coming years. Your stories of success in the backcountry continue to inspire us and everyone around you. Thank you for being a part of this community!
